I`m a frshman in the newest (but greatest) high school band GREAT OAK! GO WOLFPACK! But any way Im switching to the oboe from the clarinet with 2 of my friends and we have to adition for only 2 seats but if i dont get oboe i can do eng. horn or bassoon. so i was wondering if oboe and eng. horn have different fingerings. I dont feel like the bassoon right now. THANKS!

Nope. They are the same. I love the English horn, btw... I think it has a gorgeous mellow sound...

English Horn requires a lot more air and is based more off of the air than the Oboe because of the bore size but essentially the same fingerings (with the exception that it is 5 steps up from the oboe, I think).

The key of the English horn a non-issue unless you`re stuck transposing. All EH parts I`ve ever come across have already been written out in the proper key. So the fingerings are the same.

Hmm... so the oboe and the E.H. DOES have the same fingerings.

Interesting...

I think I could pick up the E.H. pretty quickly, and I have very good fingers, so that`s a plus.

English horn rocks my socks! But just so you know, there are a few alternate fingerings on the english horn that are different from the oboe. This mostly applies to the higher register. The english horn is a `F` instrument, just like the french horn, so it sounds a perfect fourth lower than the oboe. I recomend that you go online and buy hand made reeds from a place like charles reed company or other double reed sites, this applies to both oboe and english horn honestly. Handmade reeds sounds much better and are much easier to play than your generic factory reeds. =) Happy playing
