Sure, why not? You`ll just have plenty of room to "grow" into it!

Go for it, as long as you have tried other oboes and are sure that it is the right one for you. I thought that a marigaux would be my first choice, but the Yamaha 831 was much better for me.
Not all of the Marigauxs are great oboes, make sure the one you buy is a good one before you part with your money

I play a Marigaux 2001 semi-automatic myself. I got it as a new instrument about a year ago and I must say it is awesome ! An instrument for the pro (which I`m not, but it gives me piece of mind to know it is). Definitely go for it if you`ve got the cash !!

Well I decided to wait another year or two, because I have serious problems about making reeds and breathing and this instrument may become very false.I don`t know how old are you BPW, but I`m only 16 years old and I thing that I`m too young to have such an instrument.Becides It costs nearly 7000 euros(My father has the money),but it is VERY HIGH price for my country standart of living(the average salary is 150 euros). So that is all... I hope to be a better musician next year .

Hi,
I understand your concerns very well. While I`m quite an old guy already and I do earn my own money, it`s still a whopping amount of cash even for me.
So, I had to save up for a long, long, long time to finally be able to get the Marigaux 2001 and have a dream come true.
I just wanted to share my experiences with the Marigaux which is an instrument I dont`t regret having bought.
Best wishes
BPW

About the price of the 2001: if you go to the right shop, they will sell it to you for the so-called export price without tax.
Yes, it`s legal, no fishy thing here, but I never understood how some shops can do it and some cannot.
I bought my Marigaux 2001 from a well known and respected woodwind dealer in Germany for 5600.- Euros. Look at http://www.kreul.de/.
No way you have to pay 7000-8000 Euros !!

... And i forgot to say that this is the price for brand-new instruments, not for used or refurbished ones !

Here`s a great example of a good clean forum at work! Congrats to all writers for sharing their opinions and good luck to the starter when you make your final choice!
