A couple of suggestions on practice :-

1. Try getting a book that has a cd which you can play along too.

2. Try copying any tunes you hear by ear. See how close you get then write them down.

3. Try joining a local band as they often have people of varying abilities and you will get to learn to play in time with others.

4. But don`t forget those scales, including chromatic scales and arpeggios.

5. Make it fun and hope you enjoy it.

The English Horn is just as hard as the Oboe. It requires a larger amount of air. Also, Vibrato will come eventually- the only thing I could suggest is listen to many different recordings and try imitating what they are doing. You`ll learn a lot about vibrato and your body at the same time. For practice help- just keep practicing and practicing, learn all your major scales and relative minors, long tones, etc. You can just as much work done in a focused hour of practice that one gets in a 3 hours session. I hope this all helps!

P.S. E-mail me at Shoko2@hotmail.com if you have anymore questions

ome of the best things that i have "heard" that develop tone is simply playing with a more experienced person. Which makes sence because you hear the more advanced tone and you develop their more advanced tone. Also I would recomend CDs with oboe solos on it. The one i love is "Instruments of Classical Music: oboe" im sure there are many more classical music CDs with oboe on them.

Enjoy playing the oboe~
