My director always gives me good parts, we have great 16th note runs and probally a solo about every other piece. This year the piece that we are using for competiton has a great oboe solo, slow, but very, very light and beatuiful

I`m guessing you are in beginning band?

Two pieces my band played last year, Candide Overture and Second Suite in F, had huge solo features. This year, we are playing Ballet Music from William Tell, which has a nice feature. Two years ago, our band played some piece in which an entire movement was an oboe solo, in the honor band I`m participating in right now, I have an English Horn solo... etc....

Be patient, the Oboe is a solo instrument, but since most newer oboe players sound bad, composers will write easier music that doesn`t include big features.

hey, i started in a really good band(a lot of teachers!) half a year ago!
there is another oboist(1st oboe) he plays all the solos(beautiful and long solos)
but he does not visit the "trainings"(is this the right word?)and i play them during the trainings:-)

Relax...I got accepted to district band last year and everyone else got a good applause but when he announced my name I got that applause like in the movies where the nerd wins something and no one cares and they give them the simpathy applause.....Just bond with the bassoon `cuz double reeds have to stick together

I am slowly going crazy. There are two oboes in my band. I am the better one. Every day, I have to listen to the other oboe. And they`re flat. So flat, they are a half-step too low on every note. And that`s why I don`t get any solos. It stinks.

=O tell the other oboe that s/he is flat! you shouldn`t have to suffer just because the other one can`t pull his/her weight! just tune together at the beginning and fix anything that needs fixing. maybe a little reed scraping, or something...

hey, i use to have crappy parts but now i got into orchestra and there is ALOT of good solos jst need to give it sometime and you`ll get ur chance to shine.

My teacher only lets us count the rythym and clap. We never get to play things that we want to. Sometimes I love band and sometimes I hate it!

well im in two bands... ones a ensemble band and in that i get pretty crap music.. trumpets and clarinets get everything.. but im in a orchestra band too.. and i get better parts in that .. mayb because its more classical. enyways yea thats just me... but like i guess different bands haf different style of music and dat will effect the parts we get to play.. enyways yEA im happy with my parts at the moment.

hi. i play the obeo too. does anyone know any free websites where i can find like, BEGGINER music to play? i only started the obeo at the beggining of the year.
(im still playing songs like bingo),but sometimes they give me cool songs, like STAR TREK-THE MOTION PICTURE. It`s easy, but itz fun to play.

hi agian. since im the only obeoist in my entire school, i`ve earned a nickname by some people. i am now known as "oboe girl" by some people at my school.
