hey, i just wanna ask everyones opinion, on which instrument i should take seriously, I have been playing piano for 5 years, and im pretty good, and i really LOVE the piano ITS MY THING,
but from the start of this year, in the start of the year we had to learn an instrument and i learnt..THE OBOE, now everyday, i practically play the OBOE (I LUV IT) for lyke an hour or more,
but i touch the keys of the piano once or twice, in 4 days, I feel like I SHOULD be putting alot more effot into piano and make that my first priority (PIANO IS A SOLO INTRUMENT)
but WAT ABOUT OBOE i really like that too and oboes can bring me into more bands, wind ensembles, and the school orchestra.
SO WHICH ONE SHOULD I TAKE SERIOUSLY?

Choose the one you like most! Well, oboists usually find work easily... it depends, do you want to become a musician? Are you a good piano player?

I agree with Ember. If I were in your situation I would take Oboe seriously and just take piano as a secondary because it can really help in music theory and college. But it all depends on what you want to do in college.

Remember, if you get good enough, the oboe is a great soloist instrument too! If you get into an orchestra, you get solo parts very frequently. And being a pianist doesn`t garuntee soloistic parts either; most of your career will most likely be as accompaniment.
Also there are tonnes of pianists out there but far fewer oboists. I would reccomend concentrating on oboe but keeping up piano as a second. I switched from keyboard to viola for the same reason. Better career option.
However, do what you feel you want to do.

I have the same problem.
My parents say that I play the piano very well, but I love the oboe.
I`m taking the oboe more seriously now, and I try to fit in a little practice time 4 the piano.

Do what your older sister says, practice more and give her some time on the computer.

First off, oboe is also a solo instrument.
I feel you should do both if you can. I played piano for about 7 years and stopped, since I joined band, and my parents couldn`t afford both oboe and piano lessons. I still regret it, and I`m slowly teaching myself and working back up to being good at piano again. (At least I can still play "Fur Elise")
