It`s not very uplifting to call yourself a freak, you know. Not that I doubt your a good player, perhaps with a good personality. But... they say the first impression is the most important.

i can`t say how braces affect double reeds, but the don`t effect ANY OTHER INSTRUMENT to a large degree. Takes some getting used to, but it`ll be fine in the end.

yeah. I play with braces. I also have a band on one side of my mouth, but I take it out when I play.

You get used to it, and as long as you aren`t ramming the reed in your mouth, you won`t damage the reed or anything.

Besides, the reed doesn`t even go that far in the mouth anyways, so you shouldn`t have a problem

I play the oboe, and have just answered this question in the flute forum.

Don`t worry, the oboe is quite the same with braces as without. If you are not attaining proper embouchure, it will come soon with adaptation and effort.

If you have pain or swelling or anything of that nature, talk to your orthodontist.

I have a friend who is an orthodontist and a violinist and he told me not to give medical advice on this or any topic.

You`ll do well because oboists are a hardy breed, unlike whining flutists.
