maybe because some bands don`t tune...i have played in a few that are like that. and in my case, i haven`t seen one band conductor pay much attention to anyone except when the flutes suck or the loud instruments aren`t loud enough

hmm... we never tune anymore... after winter break we starting getting lazy and now my and director cares more about playing the actual songs now... lol.

however, since we don`t have an oboe we tune to the clarinets. i`m always in tune =) well yea, just to make the teacher happy, when i tune i bend the note up or down because i don`t want to open up my case again and get another bocal or something. especially since my second one is broken.. =/ sad =/

i`m thinking of starting on oboe... i`m in a band of around 33... lol. so no doubt i won`t be ignored that much.

um i would think that one of the keys isn`t closing right. i`m not a big oboe expert but you could turn a few screws or take it to a shop...

I`m not suprised i`ve been playing 2 years and am the best player in my band...but my band director never tunes me or help me with stuff when i screw up, he just ignores me.

Back when I was in middle school I was the ONLY one in the class. My teacher couldn`t ignore me it was like a private lesson, but then with 10 weeks left of school they changed my schedule and i was put in the biggest woodwind class there was. Once I was in that class my teacher hardly paid any attention to me. Maybe your band driector just doesn`t want anybody to think that your his favorite or maybe he`s just jealous.

I think that becuse there are so few of us that they forget that we are there until they need something. I know how you feel about being alone too. It sucks!! I hope everything gets better for you!!!

And if they don`t ignore you....they pick on you FOREVER! Oboes are fun pickable instruments.

My band teacher used to pick on me a lot, and there is this one sub in our building who plays french horn, and he`s the guy who subs for band. Anyway, this sub totally forgets I exist, and he tells flutes and clarinets to play! Then everyone sticks up for me and is like what about the oboe (I`m the only one, since my pal Erin moved away!)?? He`s like Oh yeah w/e her 2! GRR!! Anyway, about my teacher, he used to pick on me a lot!!! Then, when we started 7th grade I joined the Pep Band, and I sat in the fromt row of the bleachers, and you could hear me really well, and I did REALLY good, and sorta half stopped picking on me! It made it a lot better! But then, we were at a game and he turned to my crush (who had just joined) and said "Karolyn`s really glad you joined pep band!" I started freakin out! Then, I told all his teacher friends about it, and they all got mad at him `cuz I`m a really good student and never did anything to him! Then, he stopped, and now he`s 1 of my fave teachers `cuz he`s really nice to me, and if I want to play he`ll let me, and he gave me a solo for our state contest!! So, if you`re a victim of oboe assault (LOL) Tell all your teacher`s friends, and he`ll probly stop, that is if you`re a good student!

i wonder if anything can be drawn from this for piccolo/flute assault!!!

it`s somewhat similar to our oboes, but they`re not totally ignored. it`s mostly me, and it irritates the crap outta me! when i don`t have my tuner with me, i`m not a very happy person...ANYWAYS, he only tunes me when it`s been obvious for...hmm THE WHOLE CLASS,with like 10 minutes left, says, Laura we gotta tune you...NO CRAP SHERLOCK!!

Ok, feel better now. Glad someone started this. Even though I`m not an oboe player, I feel your pain. I`m going to try the telling his teacher friends manuever for a little bit and see what happens. That or complain to my private instructor and have her tell him that he needs to pay a little more attention to me. The thing that really sinks my boat is the fact that he never tells me how I`m doing, but can feel free to tell Denise (private teacher). I`m the type of person who needs feedback in order to function properly. I`m seriously going to have to sit him down and have a little talk.

It`s about time we get our directors doing their jobs. Anybody with me? LOL
