My husband, Sy Brandon, was kind enough to transcribe some of his award winning compositions for me to use with my oboe students as well as composing original pieces. These pieces worked very well with my younger oboists and are a welcome addition to the repertoire at this age level.

"Holiday Etudes for Oboe" was transcribed from his "Holiday Etudes for Tuba" which won the Tuba Universal Brotherhood Assn. Composition Contest in 1996. It comes as a solo book, a duet book, and/or a piano accompaniment part. The etudes are: New Years Day, Passover, Summer Solstice , Veteran`s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Easter, An Independence Day Collage, Thanksgiving, President`s Day, Cinco de Mayo, Labor Day(Fanfare for the Common Laborer), Kwanzaa, Chinese New Year Day, Autumnal Equinox (Amerindian Harvest Song) , Hanukkah, St Patrick`s Day , Memorial Day, Columbus Day , Winter Solstice, Vernal Equinox , Flag Day, Halloween , Christmas Time , April Fools (Humoresque), Father`s Day , Election Day, New Years Eve. They are designed for good elementary or junior high level oboists.

"Stylistic Etudes for Oboe" was transcribed from his "Stylistic Etudes for Euphonium" which won 2nd place in the Tuba Universal Brotherhood Assn. Composition Contest in 1995. It comes as a solo book only. The etudes are: Overture, Pavanne, Recitative and Aria, Black Cat Bounce, Minuet, Scherzo, Tango, Habanera, Sarabande, Aleatoric Escapade, Hornpipe, Passacaglia, Waltz, Fanfare, Gigue, Nightime Sky, March, Allemande, Minimalism, Polonaise, Courante, Impression- Fog, Dirge, Galop, Polka. They are designed for good junior high or high school level musicians and are excellent for teaching stylistic interpretation.

"Lyric Piece and Dance" for oboe and piano is a two movement, modal composition with some easy meter changes and interplay between parts. Duration 5:00. It is designed for the early high school oboist.

"Village Dance" for oboe alone is a modal, rhythmic, and ornamental dance influenced by Eastern European music. It involves foot stomping by the oboist and works well when an unaccompanied piece is needed for and audition or concert by a high school level oboist. Duration 2:30

You can sample these works and his other compositions for oboe by going to his web site at http://cooppress.hostrack.net and following the links to "compositions and arrangements" "oboe and English horn". The cost of these pieces are very inexpensive and worth adding to your library.

I just had a quick question. Are you from York, Nebraska or another York? Just wondering...
