For the past month whenever I play for more than 20 minutes my lips are too tired to play anymore and I have to stop. I have an audition Friday night and now I can`t get half way through the piece. any help as to what I should do would appreciated greatly =)

Well, first ... relax. Playing a double reed is a strain on the muscles of the mouth, so it`s not unusual, BUT, are you putting the reed a little too far inside your lips/mouth by any chance? Have you switched to a medium or harder reed, different brand, whatever? Also, as you know, be sure that your reed is well soaked. But mainly, I think you need to back it out of your mouth just a bit.

well, relax!
i`ve been playing just for 2 years and i`ve gotten nervous about such thigs very often!
just relax, first of all! then...
...how old are you?--> beeing a teen in a development phase could be a reason
...how long do you play the oboe?--> some sportmen have "highs" and "deeps", i guess it`s the same with the oboe...
...play with the reed in your mouth, maybe you put the reed to far in or out...?

hmmm I agree Relax. Also, try doing longtone after you warmup for a little bit (like 10 minutes) this should improve endurance and tone (this is for the future). Hmmm for audition tips on getting endurance try to relax your embouchure while playing (the object is not to hold the reeds pitch up). And HAVE FUN!

yep, i know the reed goes in too far, but I can`t get a good grip on it. my teacher yells and all the reed does is slide further in. i use medium reeds or medium soft because i have been playing oboe for like a month and a half. i know beginners play really crappy and don`t have the muscles to play very long or good yet but ive been playing clarinet and flute for like ever and THEY SUCK!!! I started oboe 2 years ago but then stopped after a week because my teacher said he didn`t need anymore oboes.

anyone else do the solo and ensemble festival this year? i got superior (1st) for my oboe solo.

part of your problem is that you`re just not used to oboe-ive never played anything else but they tell me oboe`s the hardest to play. when i started i couldn`t play for more than 20 minutes either. also, you might not be using proper breath support. at my first youth symphony audition i got nervous and didnt have proper breath support and my embachure died in the middle of the audition! not good!
