hi, i was thinking about buying a Selmer oboe its a conservatory model with a side F, low cross side C fingering, split D, and 5 trill keys. the price is 299.00, I`m sort of a beginner so is this a good deal?

a selmer is a good instrument to start out on... but you`ll probably want to upgrade later if you stick with it.

If I were you I would buy a Fox oboe. When I started out I had a Fox and I hardly had any problems.

You get what you pay for... All of the Selmer oboes I have ever played on have been terrible. It might be okay to try if you`re not sure you want to play the oboe, but don`t expect it to have good tone quality and responsiveness.
My suggestion would be to have someone who has been playing oboe for a while test it for you and check it out if possible.
