I`ve always wanted to be able to make oboe reeds but I don`t know how. If anybody would tell me a little bit about how to make oboe reeds or if you know anybody that sales good handmade reeds I mould really appreciate it.

Iwill try and run through it fast: You buy tube cane (sort of looked like Bamboo) then split, then gouge, then shape, then pick the string you want, grab a tube and tie it on and scrape on it. I covered it really fast- too many specifics to explain. When I wasn`t making my own reeds I bought from Stuart Dunkel reeds in Massachusett`s, I think. Try http://www.stuart-dunkel.com/. GOOD LUCK!
CHRIS
P.S. If you have any questions specifically send me an e-mail Shoko2@hotmail.com

There are many comprehensive books which are step-by-step guides to making an oboe reed. Books by authors such as Jay Light and David Weber are two very good books that come to mind.
It is very difficult to learn what you need to from a book, so I would suggest finding a good teacher in your area would be ideal.

I`d just get an oboe teacher and learn from them. Oboe reed making is a long and tough begining process.
