As of a month ago (1 1/2 months of playing), here was my progress with the bassoon:

1) Lowest Bflat to highest C (no hi D key) with extreme ease

2) Beautiful vibrato (I simply love vibrato and it comes quite naturally for me. This is completely necessary to make a bassoon sound good, in my opinion)

3) Intonation- I have an amazing musical ear (perfect pitch to some extent), and I have no trouble keeping every single note exactly in tune.

4)Touches- taught by distant bassoon teacher, pretty good in his opinion. Fingerings- he really noticed that I did really well with the fingereings, and I am easily able to play all highest and lowest fingerings at 1/4note MM=240

4)I can play Sonata in B flat (Mzrt, K191, all mvmnts) with extreme ease

yet to work on:

I am gr 9 piano, so I have no problem reading the base. However, although I can read tenor at a slow speed, playing my newest sheet music acquisition, the Saint Saens Sonata, I am having trouble reading tenor at the fast speed it requires. I also need to work in playing in the keys of F#maj/rel, Bmaj/rel, C#maj/rel.

I play on Rico and Jones reeds (as long as they are not too open or thin). I practice 2 hours a day, usually.

My question is, how well am I doing for nearly 2 months of playing? Do you have any suggestions for the above needed improvements? If you want, I may try to find a site to post recordings.

Thanks
