Are you a junior or high school student doing this under the auspices of a band program, or are you just wanting to do this on your own? Reason for asking - it seems you have switched a lot in the past few months, and you might ask whether after you start on the bassoon you will get tired of this, too. None of my business, but instruments cost money. You can certainly get a bassoon for under $1,000, but you will have to be prepared to spend money to overhaul it, probably - maybe $500 or so, maybe more. Are there music repair shops in your town? Ask them if they are able to overhaul bassoons, or will you have to go to some larger city somewhere - and it might be too far or prohibitively expensive to do this. These are all factors when you are considering a more "exotic" instrument like a bassoon. You often can`t just get repairs in the nearest corner store. And keys do fall off, and pads get torn, and cork falls off the joints, etc., so you need a support system nearby.
