Do you guys ever get so frustratingly bored with the bassoon pieces? My high school band is.. er.. bad.. so we get elementary (or somewhere close) school pieces to play. That also means the music the bassoon gets is boring. Either semibrieves or crotchets - throughout the whole song. I just get so.. ugh.. hatefull.

I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem? Like, find that they're going more backwards on their instrument than forwards?

Yeh.. that sorta didn't make sense did it?

Yeah, I can empathize. Most of the band bassoon music is oom-pah stuff because I guess somebody has to keep the beat, but you're right - it is pretty boring. I'm always so grateful when we get something that's got some challenging bits in it. Is there a community orchestra you could get into? These groups play different stuff and it might be less boring.

School bands always play boring stuff. My band is the same way. Join an orchestra to play really cool pieces!

Yeh, our local theatre group is doing Grease this year so I'm hoping to try out for that. Although it's mainly brass stuff I'm thinking I can hope to play trombone pieces. Depends I guess.

I live in a small country town, there's not much music stuff out here. Can't wait to move to the city!

It's normal for the Concert or Symphonic Band to have boring Bassoon parts. There is this really fun song called American Salute that is a Bassoon FEATURE! It goes all the way down to 3rd Bassoon, that's just insane for High School band. These days though, it's all focused either on the Flute, Clarinets, or Trumpets...BOO

School Bands suck ass, i was sooo bored until i went and asked my teacher for some more.... shall we say , bassoon rich pieces to play... theyre slightly more entertaining ... but still not of that of chamber music or orchestra.... having said that ,.... some orchestral music is insanely hard..

Aah, school bands - I was given cello/piano parts in my school orchestra because they didn't really know what to do with bassoonists. Then the conductor used to get stroppy when I stopped to breathe!

OMG I can completely sympathize seeing as that's exactly what happens in our school (we basically just follow the tubas). Since getting into our town's municipal band I can hardly keep up though. Our band director's daughter is first chair bassoon and has been playing for 40+ years so each piece do ALWAYS has a bassoon feature, whether it's the entire song or different parts. Right now I'm not sure which I prefer hehe.

You guys could also play. American Salute because it has a BASSOON TRIO! and its basically a feature. Although the Bass Clarinet, Tuba and Trombone all have cues if you don't have that many Bassoons
