When putting my bassoon (well, really, the schools-which makes the problem worse) together, the cork on one of the pieces started to peel off when I put it in its correct hole! Does anyone know how much this may cost? (even just a guess) Please respond immediately.

P.S. - I know I recently posted that I just got this bassoon, so right now, I feel really, really awful about it.

It's fairly inexpensive to recork a tenon, and your band director may even have the supplies to do it himself. When I was in high school my band director recorked and repadded instruments all the time, and taught interested students the simpler procedures. I just overhauled my mom's clarinet for the cost of supplies and saved her over $200.

My band director told me to re-cement the cork. She didn't seem at all mad about it like I thought would've happened. But the cement didn't dry well enough so I took part of the cork off and applied masking tape to the area. If it gets any worse, we'll have to send it in (she doesn't have the cork for the long joint at the moment). Thanks for responding

Yeh, I agree. Putting masking tape onto it instead doesn't sound like the best idea, I'd send it in anyway. It's not like you're the one that has to pay for it :p

Alot of bassoons have the tenons bound with waxed cotton.
