Hello, I'm currently shopping for a basson that would be good for a intermidiate bassoonist, and i'm not sure which to buy. So far I'm down to these models:

Schreiber S16 conservatory model
Renard 222
MOOSMANN No.100
Nobel intermidiate basson

I woul really appreciate any advice or suggestion given.

I'd go for the Renard or Moosmann.

I have never heard of a Nobel bassoon (or any other instrument of that name)- where does it come from?

Here you will find everyone phoning in with their favorite bassoon make. Having said that, however, I hasten to add mine! I played very happily on an Oscar Adler for years until I got it into my head that I deserved a new one, so now I have ended up with 2 bassoons. What is the new one? A Moosmann.

Apparantly Nobel is a Canadian company, and their bassoons were very cheap comparing to major brands like fox or Renard, but their quality is not as good as them.

Most likely Nobel buy them in from China - I wouldn't go near it. I have never seen one of these instruments really worth considering.

I don't think Nobel is a chinese instrument, its associated with Miller Marketing. My best advice is to try the bassoons before you buy, and try many of them. Also, let your teacher try them. Don't just go for a brand because someone says it.
But I have a Moosmann ;]

I've just been looking at the Nobel web site - they don't say anywhere the origins of their instruments. In my experience these days if a company doesn't acknowledge the country of origin of their products it's probably the far East. My apologies to them if I'm wrong in this case.

I see that their student bassoon is made of hard rubber - that's a first for me. All non-wood bassoons that I have seen are plastic of various sorts.
