Does anyone have a recommendation for a backpack case for bassoons? We have a Fox Renard student line instrument which we would like to replace the case for with a backpack style.

First choice I'd go for the Bonna case or second the Kim Walker (made by Bass Bags). The former are more rigid than the KWs. Unfortunately Bonna is putting up his prices by nearly 20% but I think they are still good value.
If you live in UK I can tell you a source for either of these.

My personal favorite is the Bam Cases (Available at Miller Marketing). I personally am going to purchase one soon, and a girl from the University has had one for two years, and has reccommended it, and so has my bassoon teacher http://www.millermarketingco.com/bam/bassoon_bam.htm

Hmm, i was told to avoid kim walker cases because they're generally not that great? apparently her cylinder shaped tube cases don't always fit together and can damage the instrument, and her upright soft cases with the flap over the top, there isn't enough protection on the bottom which means it's the biggest problem repairers find - damaged tendons because the case wasn't well enough padded.
I don't know if you're from the UK or not, but I recently bought a case from howarths - their own make, with two large pockets on the front. It's just square with 3 different ways to carry it - handles, shoulder straps to put on your back, and a single strap to sling it over your shoulder. It's been great for me, snug fit so my instrument doesn't wobble around, but not so tight it doesn't fit or bends some keys.
