so, i have been playing the trumpet for abour 4 years, but it's started to feel boring for the past couple of months. so when the band director asked if anyone would like to try playing the basson, i jumped on the opportunity.
unfortunatly, the only thing i know about the bassoon is that it is tall and is sometimes red.

he is going to get an instructor for me and buy everything that i need, but i wanted to ask if any of you guys have any advice for a brass switching to a bassoon.

absolutly any and all information and advice that you guys can give me would be AWESOME.

You will have to learn to read bass clef.

If you are going to have a private instructor, he will start you out in the right way and if you apply yourself, it should not be too hard. When you're young like you are, it is easier to switch from one type instrument (brass) to another (woodwind).

Ok. I switched from trumpet to bassoon. It is so much fun! Its not that i wasnt bored with trumpet. i just wanted to try something new. For me the thing that is most difficult is the double reed, because some times i cant get it to vibrate so i cant play the note. But it gets easier with time and practice.

Well, then, so far so good. Don't bite on the reed and it will vibrate easily for you. For embouchure, think of making your mouth like a drawstring bag, with the lips drawn in around the reed in every direction. The power comes from your cheeks and the air you can sustain through the horn.
