I've got a sheet that starts off in bass clef but then changes to treble for about 7 measures then back to bass. How would I play those measures in treble?

Do you know how to read the treble clef? If so, then if we are talking bassoon music here, you will realize that you probably will not want to play anything higher than a B or C above middle C. If the notes in the music go higher than that, see how they sound when you put them down an octave. If you don't know how to read treble clef, you can find many books which tell you how, and you can translate those notes into bass clef for yourself. Basically, middle C on bass clef is the note just above the top of the staff with one line through it, right? Well, middle C on treble clef is the note just BELOW the BOTTOM of the staff with one line through it. So you can use that as a reference and try to figure out what the notes are.

The bass clef staff and the treble clef staff are actually connected. A C one leger line above the bass clef staff is a C one leger line below the treble clef staff. That's middle C. You should be able to figure out what note you have to play based on that.

Drew: Yes, I do know how to read treble. So let's say the note in treble is a C (The first note in this link on the treble). Would I play my middle C on it, or just ignore the clef change all together and play an E?

You have to play it so that it sounds as written. In your example what you play must sound an octave higher than the bass clef notes.

That looks tricky. Bar 17 is way off the top of the ladder for most of us! Have fun with it.

No disrespect intended to Dennis but does he know what a bassoon can do? And no disrespect intended to you either Krista but, if you have to ask how to read this music, do you know how to finger that high? I know that I don't. As Contra has just said - Bar 17 is seriously tricky. If you can play this you're not far away from the opening of The Rite of Spring. Now that's my real ambition...

Lol. I know, it's really hard. It's one of the things I intend to learn how to play.

I think many professionals wouldn't be able to get that high G.

Probably not. Well, I'll just put that aside as a goal to shoot for. Instead I'll work on something else. Thanks for the help everyone.
