Hey,
My braces are finally off (after a long, hard journey through preteen and teenhood)
and I got out my bassoon. Now my sound is...stuffy i guess. It just isn't very good.My flute and picc were fine though (even better, actually). Is there any reason why my bassoon should sound so ghastly? I've got an advanced bassoon camp coming up,so is there any way to get my sound back fast? Any tips? I really don't want to sound like a dieing animal at camp.

I have my brass students do a chromatic scale all the way up and all the way down their range. Do this once in the morning and once in the evening. They usually get back to normal within a week. It has to do with your lips stretching out over your braces - now you need to get the lip skin and muscle(s) to return to their original shape/size/position. It should just take some basic retraining and a little time for them to 'elastisize' back. The younger you are the quicker it will happen.

if you just started 1 week ago, then chances are, you will. Same thing happened to me on clarinet, and bassoon fingerings are even more complex!
To help, try going over fingering in your head instead of counting sheep at night when you can't get to sleep, or fingering an imaginary bassoon when you get the chance, like when you are in the car, or watching TV.
