Alrighty. Hi there 8notes.

Apparently, my reeds hate me.

I recently got a new reed, a medium hard. It was open too wide at the end so i squeezed the wire until it was about 2mm wide; the only problem is, now my reed makes a horrible grinding sound on my upper Bb and A.

If anybody could respond with advice on fixing this, that would be great.

Also, I'm playing my bassoon in my cadet marching band; does anyone have lyre placement/music reading suggestions?

All input is appreciated!

The only advice I could give you is 1. Get a new reed? 2. Memorize your music. It really isn't difficult.

my goodness? medium hard!!!!
there is no reason to play on a harder reed whatsoever, may professionals stick to a medium soft. with reeds, get a teacher. If you can't then get some sand paper...it makes that sound because, most likely, your reed is too hard or has a heart that is too defined.
And marching with a bassoon? Good luck.I have no idea whatsoever on that, I march with my flute.
