I am a freshman in high school and have been playing bassoon for about three and a half years. I currently play on a school instrument. I don't know the exact name of the , but it is a Fox, a student , and plastic. It is old and beat up, but the school won't buy another one. (We had to beg them to buy this one.) I want to become a go to college for bassoon and become a professional bassoonist, so I have been considering buying my own. I have really small hands, so I would probably need a short reach . Does anybody have any suggestions as to which bassoon I should buy?

Howarth, Schreiber, Fox, Adler, and probably others make short reach bassoons. Google "short reach bassoon" and you will get a ton of hits.

I think all makers now produce short reach models - including Moosman & Takeda. Puchner will make a pro model one for you to special order.

I don't think that a Puchner for small hands has to be custom ordered, I think it's just available.

purchased Bassoons and an oboes for all our kids and grandkids. always a good choice is a Schreiber Bassoon, they are easy to play then other brands while still getting a good sound. most of our double-reed Instruments we purchased at http://www.music-oldtimer.com/en/instruments and it always was a good experience. Schreiber Bassoons are excellent Instruments for the advanced to professional Bassoonist without a budgetary stretch.
