I have been looking into getting my very first bassoon. I have been looking mostly into the Renard 240, because it fits my needs. The only problem is the price tag on it, and it is way out of my budget. I have no idea how i would be able to save up 7 thousandish. I was wondering if there were any other bassoons that cost less for the same features as the renard 240
Thanks,

There are many cheaper bassoons out there with the same features as the Renard but made from inferior materials & quality control. Stick to the well known brands - Moosmann, Schreiber, Adler & possibly Takeda as well as the Fox models.
You could also consider buying a used one - you have to be careful & get it checked by an experienced player or teacher & technician (Do not just rely on a player/teacher as they quite often do not look beyond the fact that it plays OK when they try it) before comitting yourself. Ask lots of questions before buying - the most important is 'where was it made' - most of the unknown brands are sourced from China &, although the quality of most of these has improved over the years, I have yet to see one which I feel would last you long either mechanically or musically.
