I just received my very first bassoon, Woo! (I'm a cellist.) Anyway, I was wondering what you guys used to clean/polish both the woodwork and the keys of a bassoon. It's a bit scurvy and the keys and metal around the tenon (I'm a complete newb and don't know what to call that, sorry) clearly haven't been buffed or polished recently, and the finish of the bassoon is not quite as clean as it should be. I've heard to use mineral oil to clean the wood, is this a good way? Also, is it best to leave scratches in the finish alone or is it possible to get them fixed (cheaply) for cosmetic purposes? Oh, and the keys are nickel plated, I believe, on this particular bassoon.
