It can be heavy, but with the right stuff you should be fine. You will need a seat strap, and a neck strap would help you too. Also make sure you have a crutch, for support on the right hand. You will experiment with the seat strap, and that will solve most things. For example, you may find that the bassoon is putting to much of it`s weight on your left hand. This can be simply corrected by sliding the seat strap towards the front of the chair.

I have played the bassoon since i was 8 and i started on a full size instrument. In answer to your question, yes it is heavy, however, you get used to it really quickly and if you are as weak as you say you are then it would be good for you `cos it builds up muscles in your arms!! If you want to learn it then do, as long as you can make a sound out of it because the world needs more double reed players and you will be in high demand if you`re good!
If you find that you can`t hold a full size bassoon comfortably then they also make smaller bassoons now which are great for starting on. They have mini bassoons which are really tiny and also, half size bassoons which i think may be called tiger bassoons, i`m not sure. However, these are not widely known of so you would have to shop around a bit to find a decent shop which will get some in for you to try. There are tons of accessories which can help to take the weight of the bassoon off your hands e.g. the marsden seat strap which puts the weight onto the chair (i ahven`t tried this so i don`t know whether its good). Howarths in London sell harnesses which put the weight onto your shoulder, these are great for if you decide to learn to play standing up.
As you can see the weigth of the basson will not be a problem, if you really really want to learn the bassoon then i would say go for it!

I do know something about marsden seat straps becuase my teacher has one b/c she has arthritis in her shoulders. They are really nifty. You can let go of the bassoon and it just holds there. If you are having issues with having too much weight on your left hand i would highly suggest it.
