What does heavy wall mean. Also, is there a big difference between light weight and meduim weight in tone quality?

some people say there are differences but a lot of times heavier won`t do anything for you. some people add metal to or take matal from trumpets to change the vibrations. generally a light weight trumpet is better for jazz than legit and vice versa.

Heavyweight horns give a fuller spectrum of overtones. Most people aren`t developed enough to play the heaviest horns, because they don`t play open enough to get the horn to resonate properly. The horn often will sound dead and stuffy if they can`t play it properly. Lead players often play lightweight horns to give a "closer" brighter sound that cuts through a high volume group better than a darker sound. A standard weight horn is generally enough for most people. By standard weight I mean a Yamaha 6000 or 8000 series (excluding the Shew horn) or the equivalent from other companies.
