Sounds like your lips are to tight. You may need to relax when you try to play low. Also make sure your lips are more open when trying to play. Hope this helps.

Jake,
If you really want to learn to play, hook up with a good private teacher. Without physically see you it`d be really hard to diagnose any problems you have, even for someone very experienced in teaching (not me!)
It sounds to me like you`ve set yourself with an embouchure that is just whacky. Get a teacher - it`ll make all the difference in the world.
Cheers!

For every high note you play you should be able to hit a low one. Just keep at it, a private teacher will help. You may want to check the size of you mouthpiece... you may have a "CHEATER" one.If you have one it will almost be imposible to hit low notes. This is teh best adivice I can give you

I think it`s your embouchure. Are you curling your lips? Don`t. Tightening? Don`t. I`d recomend something like the tongue controlled embouchure

Sometimes mouthpeices and the horn itself are to blame, but if you don`t have a decent embouchure it doesn`t even matter what horn and MPC you play. It`s like a bad swimmer shaving his body to go faster, those things won`t do you any good until you are already a decent swimmer. Make sense?
