Generally I have heard that learning the saxaphone
is easier (can pick it up quicker) than learning the trumpet,
is there any truth to this???

I don`t know about sax, but I`m learning trumpet for a senior project and I`ve only spent a couple months and can play most of the notes pretty well.

theres no contest there. i play saxophone and i can tell u right off the back sax is much easier than a trumpet. i know i`ve been trying to play the trumpet for about a week and it hurts switching back and forth.if u want easy go for sax. if u want of lip bleeding work that pays off later go wit trumpet

I play the clarinet as my main instrument, and taught myself how to play the saxophone. I am now teaching myself how to play the trumpet, and I can honestly tell you that for me it seems that the trumpet is harder to learn. With the sax you pretty much just have to learn the fingerings, but the trumpet is all with your mouth and embouchre and all that. So I`d say sax is definitely easier, but if I was going to begin with something I`d play trupet because there`s so much more you can do with it in the future if you become really good at it.

I`d bring Einstein in here. Everything is relative. If you manage to play the same song on both instrument, than trumpet is more difficult to learn. But, if you consider a scholl band in exemple, the sax get to play faster passage than trumpet does. In many song, we were playing quarter note and 8th note when the sax was going all the way up and down with 16th note... in that case, it is the same to master each piece, same difficultie for instrument. And I`d say it is hard for a sax player to get a very rich and beautiful sound just as it is hard on trumpet. Maybe a quicker start, but at a point, it takes the same time to continue... and with trumpet you can always continue to expend register... but on sax, you can`t... so they gotta work on speed.

I play the saxaphone and the trumpet. I think the saxaphone is easier but I love playing the trumpet too. The trumpet takes a lot of air to play it.

I play both the trumpet and the saxaphone. In 5th grade I started with the trumpet. We went pretty slow because we had absolutly no idea of how 2 play or even how 2 hold the trumpet. By the end of 5th grade we had learned an octave and a 1/2. But the saxaphone I picked quicker. It took me 2 weeks 2 learn from low c 2 double c. It may be easier 2 learn but I don`t know that for sure. It may have just been easier 4 me because I also play the clarinet and I knew kinda how 2 hold it and positioning the mouth piece correctly. Yes I would say that the saxaphone would b @ least a little bit easier but if I were u I`d go 4 both. They`re both nice intruments 2 play and they both have a nice sound. Plus if u play more than one instrument u may b eligable 4 a scolarship (when u get there). But if u can`t or just don`t want 2 play both then I would go 4 the challenge--go with the trumpet.

I think that learning the trumpet should B easier... earlier someone mentioned about embrouhure and mouth positions.. well... my seniors taught me using the bugle so that i mastered the embrouchure... now i think trumpet is much easier for me compared to saxaphone.. although i have no real experience in saxaphone, i feel that the reed is very hard to use.

Well i disagree with everyone. I have played my neighbors trumpet and I could play and master a scale in 10 minutes. However saxaphone I found harder because of the whole bottom lip under and tightening lip thing. Also I found it kind of hard to make a sound when I picked it up. Actually I got my sax today and Ive never played it before and I just made a sound a half hour ago!!!

I have been playing both the sax and trumpet for about 2 1/2 years now and there is no doubt that saxaphone is easier to pick up. The trumpet is much more your own lip. I have had trouble picking up trumpet. I still continue to show progress it sure was not easy but if you practice (which I can say I don`t) then it will be easier for you

hi, i am a trumpet player in highschool and i just wanted to say that learning how to play the trumpet is hard if you play an other instroment. I would think that playing the trumpet is harder than playing the sax. Trumpet players need to have very strong lips and keep them in shape all the time or else you wont be able to play the higher notes so easily. It will take hard work to become a good trumpet player.
