ok first off, when i went to buy myself a new trumpet i played everything that had a leadpipe. So i advise you to do the same.

Also my friend also played the instruments and found he liked another one better. (which goes to show, an insturment is personal)

also consistantcy is important, im not sure if all the instruments of one sort are euqal, so if you buy one i say is good, and it sucks, it could be because inconsistancies.

Well as i tried many trumpets, BEssons, Blessings, Bachs, Getzens, Jupiter, Schlike and B & S... also more. It came down to three instruments for me,

1. Bach Strad 180lt silver
2. Getzen, 900s
3. Jupiter XO tribune 1600 (the `best` jupiter)

Personally the Bachs i played were nice, very nice, i could be satisfied with one. But they are Bach they have stigma that goes along with them, `i play a strad` and i think thats why it was amoung the top 3, but i didnt find it as nice to play as the others.

The Getzen 900s (the one Severinson plays) had a really solid response. it seemed to be a little heavier then the Jupiter and played better then the Bach. I found the valves to be tough almost, didnt have the action i expected them to have. But in my opinion a superior trumpet to the Bach i played.

The jupiter had the best response and a really nice feel while playing. It seemed to be the most free blowing instrument, with little resistance in the upper register (this doesnt mean you will play higher with this trumpet). The one super ficial part of the Jupiter i liked was the valve buttons. There is no gem just silver and i liked that feel better. The one problem is that i dont know but the bell seemed to be lighter then the others.

Just because i rated the Bach 3rd, doesnt mean poop, i am just a university student who plays. This was just my experience. I was going to buy the Jupiter, but my dad bought me a Bach and then i asked him to buy me a slide trumpet. Also because i rated Bach last, doesnt mean Bach is the worst, many pros stand by Bach as the best out there.

You also want to know what context you will be playing. I play ska, so i need a really bright sound, so a light trumpet tends to work best. Anyways, i hope this straightend things out. Check out stomvi ttumpets.. i really want one! bright sound for sure!

I also have another question, do I need to get the bigger bore or the smaller bore, i really have no idea on shopping for a trumpet, as long as it played before i was okay with it

you need to try some horns and decide what you like. i do the same kind of playing as you and i play a getzen 700s eterna II. it`s got a medium large bore and i like it. i recomend that you try that horn, the newer xeno, the older xeno, bach strad (37,43 and 198), getzen 900s, and stomvi made in spain. try some smaller bore horns to if you like but you most likely won`t be happy with the playing.

Where feelings of which is the best trumpet are concerned, there are probably about as many opinions as there are serious trumpet players. After returning to playing after about a twenty-year complete layoff I started back up on a new OLDS NA 100ZU. It`s really sweet horn as advanced student models go, but during rehearsals for a concert in early Fall `04 I realized a student model wasn`t going to serve the full purpose of the direction I was headed. After considerable shopping around I settled on a Blessing ML-1S. It`s a pro model horn available online for the price of a high quality student model. For those looking to upgrade and who aren`t hung up on the status symbol thing that goes with playing a Bach Strad, Stomvi, or other higher priced trumpet, I don`t think there`s a better choice for the money than the Blessing ML-1 line.

Alright guys, thanx for everything but i made my decision....after trying out the bach strad 37, the jupiter tribune series and the getzen, I decided to go with the Jupiter. I liked both the Jupiter and Bach playing but then there was the price issue so that is were the 1,200 jupiter came in handy. Thanx for the input
