between those two xeno is better in my opinion. xeno is true to its pitch and can help you get a "rounder" or bigger sound.

I have heard and know for a fact that the xeno is a heavyweight model compared to the bach strad. Would this be good for all around playing and would it give me a dark sound in jazz when I need a bright sound.

It may be better all around but is it versatile for jazz and concert band playing.

I totally agree, with the xeno you can get what ever you need sound wise: round and full for concert or bright and edgy for jazz or marching. It is a very good trumpet made by a trusted brand. I know all I`ll ever use is yamahas....God can`t wait till I save up to buy one.... just got an intermediate/pro horn but I want the xeno.

I have tried a xeno and must say that it is much better than the bach strad in terms of quality, tone, ease of play, dynamics and many other areas.

A bach strad is easier to get used to. but its personal preferance. I`ve been playing my bach srad for 4 1/2 years. And it was easy to switch to from the Bach Ultimute witch I`d played for 1 year and before that a cornet for1 year. the reason I`ve gone trough 3 cornet/trumets in the last 6 years because of personl preferance. You should probably go try each one out in stores like Brook Mays where they you do that and then decide.

The thing is I don`t know what to look for when trying them out and the employees keep hassling me to buy the xeno even though I never got the chance to really try them out.

See what your band director wants you to get.

Sam is probably right. You should check with your band director to see which one he thinks would work better for the band.
