Help. I know I`m a pretty good player, but just as little as 20mins of practice is enough to kill me. Especially if I`m playing high. I know i press too hard-but can`t help it. Ive tried lip buzzing..it sort of helps but its given me a different embouchure..
Do any of you people have this problem? What do you do!? It`s so frustrating not being able to play for long periods of time without smashing your chops....

There are several factors to consider here. Embouchure strength and flexibility and the ability to hit high notes is one thing. Being able to do it on a prolonged basis is quite another. Just as lifting 50 pounds ten times in five minutes tires the body muscles more than lifting 25 pounds ten times in five minutes, playing higher notes will tire the embouchure more than playing low notes. Just as the key to endurance in lifting weights is repetition, so is the key to developing embouchure endurance. There is no quick, easy way to accomplish it. If you`re not practicing daily, start doing so. If you`re practicing less than an hour per day, I suggest that you increase your practice time five or ten minutes every few days until you can play for most of an hour, five minutes at a time with brief rest periods between until you can do so comfortably. Then start working your way up to two hours per day. Patience is an essential ingredient to success.

If at all possible you need to learn to play through your entire range with very light pressure against the rim of your mpc. Pressing hard into the cup can help with the higher registers, but if you make a habit of it you may wind up having to have your leadpipe brace reattached because constant excessive pressure on them can cause the solder joints to break.

If you practice playing soft arpeggios such as p or pp up to high C it can dramatically reduce mp pressure. It also helps to improve tone and flexibility.Jon Faddis uses this and it obviously works wonders for him. Also, maybe you should look jerry callets tce method a chance. It increses range, endurance, tone, articulation and just about everything.
