Heya all i`m thinking about getting a new trumpet, flugel and Cornet. I am particularly looking at the Getzen Genises for the trumpet, but im really not all that sure about what make of cornet or flugel to get. I have been told that the Conn Vintage One is a nice flugel but thats it. Can anyone help?
Thanks,

Getzen four valve flugel a is very nice horn or a blessing four valve which is exactly the same as a getzen four valve but cheaper. also getzen has a new flugel out which is not well known yet(it`s very new) but is very nice. Not many people will know much about it if you ask them e-mail me and i can give you some answers to questions. it`s better than the four valve in ways but the nice thing about the four valve is the bore size. it`s got a .460 bore which is not the typical bore size for a flugel. it makes swithching from trumpet to flugel very easy. the custom getzen flugel has a typical smaller bore and a very smooth, mellow sound. all getzen eterna flugels and the blessing flugel are easy blowing. the the four valve model is 896 the three valve(a few intonation problems but nothing that can`t be fixed with a trigger) is 895 and then there is the new one which is very nice. the model number has escaped my mind but you can look it up on getzen.com. the blessing that i told you about is exactly the same as the getzen once you`ve broken it in(takes about a week of playing thirty minutes a day) the model number is 155.
As for cornet i`ll respond once i look up the model numbers so that i can be specific.
e-mail me and i can give you more specs on pretty much any brand that you ask about. (i do a lot of horn testing and work on horns) and i can also give you some contacts to buy from if you want. i might be able to find you some deals...

ok here`s more on the getzens and on cornets. the model number for the custom getzen flugel is 3895 the bore size is .420 (pretty normal for a flugel) and it comes with a 3 valve trigger.
one more getzen flugel that i forgot to mention is the 795 which you can probably get for cheaper than the 895 but is virtually the same thing reintroduced. intonation problems are fewer.
there are a number of getzen cornets to chose from... you can never go wrong with an eterna getzen no matter what instrument you are buying. the 800 sereis is good. you can get the cornet with a .460 bore or a .464. i recomend .464 for a rounder sound especially if you want to be able to blow as hard as you feel like without ovre blowing the horn.
there is nothing that i can find wrong with a 3850 getzen cornet. the bore size is .462 which i believe to be perfect for an experienced trumpet player. it is pretty much the getzen 850 cornet (also very nice) worked up to perfection. and then there is the 782 getzen cornet which is pretty much an 800 reintroduced.
for affordability i reccomend the getzen any of the 800 series(800,810,850) if you can afford it i reccomend the 3850. once again e-mail me for info on other brands and what i think of them. however, i am a strong believer in any professional Getzen instrument.

hmmm... cornets... chances are if you like getzen products you aren`t into Bach`s. so... schilke makes a nice cornet. It`s a lot more pricy than a getzen however. though if you`re looking at buying a genesis or that generation X you don`t mind spending. it`s hard to go wrong with a yamaha pro cornet but you`ll find that they aren`t as free blowing as a getzen or schilke although they do produce a nice full warm cornet sound. Something i normally don`t recomend but i do in the case of cornets is a besson. They are great for brass bands and the french style of the slides and valves is nice. it`s not as pricy as the schilke or yamaha but is more pricy than the getzen. i belive the 928 besson to be better than the 927 besson because of the brassy sound. i do suggest getzen because of the price and the comfort of the instrument and also you can play it in what ever style you feel like. same with shilke.

If you`re still looking for a Flugelhorn I`d recommend the Kanstul 1525 copper bell Flugelhorn. Its a great Flugel. While Kanstul trumpets are pretty average this Flugel is outstanding. The copper bell and a .421 bore produces a sweet dark mellow tone. It sounds like a Flugel not like a mega cornet or trumpet.

Doc severinsen played a Getzen for a long time... lots of pros use Getzens and they are well known for there valves... unlike yamahas which are well known for having a dull sound and being stuffy. Getzen is more known as a jazz horn... maybe you`re one of those legit guys who know nothing about real music and you are blind in hte way of horns. Haha you just said that a Yamaha was better than a Genesis Getzen... you`re funny

This is a message to Mr. MMHS Trumpet Player. Have you ever heard the phrase, "Commenting is only good, when you improve the silence" Well let me tell you my friend, leave the silence alone, for you certainly don`t improve it. Any good trumpet player worth his weight in Double C`s would never level criticism on a manufacturer`s instruments. If you are good enough, you can get a decent sound out of any horn. Obviously, an individual of such little class as yourself, feel that you must expose your lack of character.
Getzen`s are great horns, as are Bach`s, and every other brand for that matter, except maybe those
99 cent jobs on eBay.
"It`s not the horn that makes the trumpet player, but the trumpet player who improves the sound of the horn."

Well i dont no about u.In my band down here in so cal, we use either bachz or yamahaz. Kuz getzens jus dont really cut it.I`ll admit that u have some pretty good points. Its jus that i prefer certain trumpets over others regardless who wut famous person used it.Itz lik owning shoes. Some ppl buy shoes kuz famous ppl sponser them, while others buy normal shoes that`ll get them through the day.But their basically the same thing rite?As long as u have a shoe an ur satisfied with it.
Im also a pretty good player.I dont need a bach strat or a yamaha allegro pro to sound good.I can practically use my old student Belmonte trumpet an still sound good. Even though trumpets from Taiwan or China r basically somthin to avoid.

Sorry if I was a bit tough on you with my last message. Now that we are on even ground, I feel better. I appreciate your loyalty to a brand. I myself do play a Getzen Genesis, number 17 off the line in 2004. It is an amazing horn. My main jazz horn is a Lawler, the last one Roy made in his Florida shop, before he moved to TN. Having both of these horns to choose from is like having a couple Porche`s in the garage.
So keep up your love for music, even if you don`t make it your career. I myself, at 51, have played since I was 7, and love it as much today as ever. There is a ton of work out there for trumpeters who love to play, and of course, do it for free.
Nice talking with you.

Ahh dont worry about it.I`ll keep the love of music in me.Another thing is that my band we`re more focused on classical/contempoary pieces an not really jazzy, cinema or anything else.Kuz my teacher believs that classical music will help you the most.So yeah.Thatz the jist of it basically.
Hey have u heard of songs lik Vesuvius?I frickin love that song
