For the past several months, as I have practiced (2-4 hours per day), I have occasionally switched to my old, recently restored cornet for numbers for which a somewhat darker, more mellow tone is appropriate. For trumpet I`m using a Blessing 7C (virtually identical in all respects to a Bach 7C mpc). For the cornet I use a Holton 7C cornet mpc. The only noticeable difference I have found between the two is that it takes a little more force behind the air flow for the cornet, because it has two more bends in the tubing than a Bb trumpet, and a slightly smaller diameter leadpipe. My first guess would be that if you`re "bottoming out" on your trumpet mpc after playing cornet, its cup must be considerably shallower and/or larger diameter than the cornet mpc you`ve been using.
