eg. is there anything in particular i should know about, and what makes a good teacher.

One of the most important things about teaching younger kids (beginning to intermediate) is "Patience". I also recommend that you spend some time at the outset teaching them how to properly maintain their instruments beyond oiling the valves and smearing new slide grease on top of old, dried out grease. You may as well also invest in a mouthpiece puller because beginning trumpet students have a knack for getting their mouthpieces jammed. Don`t ask me how they do it. All I know is that during the last semester of the 2004-2005 school year, out of four beginning trumpet students we had to send three to the local music store to get a jammed mpc pulled. I`ll also recommend that YOU read Effortless Mastery[/] by Kenney Werner. It will help you with your own playing, and will give you some good insight to use in your instruction.

The thing to keep in mind is how were you taught. If that wasn`t successful then you need to change that. I have several private trumpet students and also teach at the middle school level. If you have any questions let me know here and i will do my best to answer them.

cool..

i am quite young myself..im still at school. I`m only teaching little kids so most of the time it`s ok.

I`m just wondering about the "power" thing that teachers have..

There was once this young boy and i felt as if he was the one controlling the lesson, not me..
Know what im getting at?
What do u do with them?

Gently remind him that he is the student and you are the teacher.
