not to sound toshd or anything..but theres like an entire series of scratches up from the bell of my trumpet (left side)
I have no idea where they came from-i am usually very carefull with my instrument.
Is there anything that can be done? What`s with the toothpaste trick..

If they are very light, some silver polish cream should take care of them. If they are deep, then the horn might have to be replated to make it look pristine. But the point is to make music, not look pretty so I wouldn`t worry about it.

He is right, I have an old Bach that is about 15 years old, all of the brass laquer is worn off, the horn looks about as dull as britney spears sounds, yet It is the best sounding horn I have. Have you ever heard that professional musicians actually buy new horns and strip off the finish for recordings? it is because it lightens the horn and allows it to ring and resonate just that little bit more.
