I have a question about drum corps. I understand that they have baritones, euphoniums, contra-bases, mellos and trumpets. But aren`t Euphoniums and baritones the same thing? Also For the "soprano" line do they play regular trumpets or C trumpets? Thanx

regular b flat trumpets are used. the corps usually supplies one for you to use while you`re with the corps. yes baritone and euphonium are the same thing. corps use front bell horns only though.

Baritones and Euphoniums are NOT the same thing. Euphoniums are significantly bigger than a baritone. There is a difference. Think of it this way. the Contras(A) play the lowest spectrum of sound and the trumpets(E) as the highest. So from A------E for example is your spectrum. What do you fill in the middle??? Well if the baritone(C) and Euphonium(B) are both lower than the trumpet and Mellophone(D) but the baritione is built smaller than the euphonium so we can guess that the baritone is the middle voice in the spectrum. So... you get A-B-C-D-E, a full spectrum of color for sound! Wow, that was fun! Its basically a concept of overtones and colors and stuff like that. Then you put it all together and listen to a tuning progression....oh yeah!!! I miss it already!!!!!!
