To start out with, this Topic really isn`t Necessary, just thought I`d shout and see if any other Trumpet or Brass Players with Braces answer. I just got mine like 2 months ago, couldn`t play anything above a middle C without anything on the Metal. Then I went to wax for a while...but that got too complicated, so I asked the orthodontics guy for something diff. SO he gave me full plastic cover for em..and I`m good now..mostly..lips wear out A lot faster though. And can`t play quite as High..so the question remains..are there any other Braces Trumps with stories?hm?

First of all... you dont need the cover itll make it harder later!!!!
i started trumpet with braces.. my first note ever was a g above middle c with braces. it takes a little while to get used to... but once u get going its great. you may get a few friction sores frum ur lips vibratin against the braces but they`re no worse than kankersores. actually my performance went way down after i got my braces off.. i had to totaly realearn how to play. but now not even one year after, i hit my first triple high c! I find that after the braces are removed it feels like your bottom lip isnt supporting the mouth peice so, my solution... turn out the bottom lip once the braces ar removed. it kinda looks funny and its my permanent stlye now. but hey if it works go for it!

HEY!! WOAH hold up! dint use the cover just get used to the metal trust me you will be thankful later! trust me on this one... the cover makes your teeth support your lips further out away from your teeth wich creates a problem when you get your braces off, essentialy you get used to playing with your embroshure(Spelling??lol) further away from your teeth... when the braces are removed theres nothing there to suppourt ur embroshure that far out so essentially you need to relearn how to play. and after 2 or 3 years of playing that can be super frustrating... trust me its easier to play with the cover now but you will regret it in the years to come.

The metal doesn`t hurt! There`s just TOO much air in between the metal and the lips, so it`s imposibble to play without the "little plastic cover lip"...simply Impossible

not many things are impossible. playing with braces with out a cover is possible. i did it for 3 years! if there is to much air flowing inbetween the metal then your soulution is simple i cant see why you dont think about it your self. to much air between metal not enough air to horn... solution: MORE AIR SUPPOURT! its all in the amount of air
use way to much air dont blow it hard but take in super amounts and let it out a bit quicker than usual more air=better tone. less air=tiny nontrumpet tone

well then aparently i am incredible then, and can do any thing. because surely playing with braces is entirly immpossible and no one in the world can possibly do it so youd better just give up now and drop the trumpet because having braces for 2-3 years it will be impossible to play with out the cover and then when you get them off it will be absoulute hell...... soooooo you may as well just quit while youre ahead or..... YOU COULD JUST FRICKEN TRY WITH MORE AIR AND NO COVER IT WILL WORK!!!!!! IF I DID IT YOU CAN DO IT!!! I KNOW FIVE OTHER PEOPLE WHO PLAY WITH BRACES AND NO COVER SO UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR TRUMPET SKILLS TO BURN SHRIVEL AND DIE YOU SHOULD START PLAYING WITHOUT THE COVER AND TRUST A VETERAN!!!!!!!!! im gonna be off now because im being an ass

Hey guess what.
I got my braces on the afternoon of my concert one year. And i was 2nd chair, 1st part, and i pretty much dealt with it, now im getting them off in two weeks and i can hit high C above the staff with no problem while warming up.
im not sure if having them off will affect my playing at all...we will see then wont we!!!
+nick+
..............go CT!!!!
