I have a pocket trumpet and play it for Marching perfomances, and nobody seems to recognise what that little thing that I`m playing is and keep calling it a picolo although it`s not. Am I the only one?

the sound of any instrument depends on the player. if i feel like it i can have a sound as mellow as a flugelhorn on a trumpet or as shrill as a flute. so saying that a pocket trumpet doesn`t produce a good sound is crap. i have a pocket trumpet and people do tend to mistake it for a piccolo trumpet. even my director does... but i rarely play it. i prefer my getzen 700s to the maestro pocket trumpet

The idea that the Pocket Trumpet dosen`t have good sound came from those that got one cheap, although they do wear out quicker than a regular trumpet.

I`ve never played a pocket trumpet, but from the studying I`ve done through passive interest in having one, my understanding is that the design was born of necessity to have a compact instrument for keeping up on practice while traveling. If I understand correctly, though the pocket trumpets generally sound good, the smaller bell and compact design don`t project the sound quite as well as a regular trumpet, which makes it very adaptable for playing in somewhat confined areas.
