This is not an argument. The main difference between trumpets and cornets is that trumpets have a relatively cylindrical bore while cornets have a more conical bore. The cornet also has a longer leadpipe, also adding to the conical qualities. This results in a darker, smoother sound on a cornet. However, it will not project as well as a trumpet, and will not provide the brilliant tonal clarity of a trumpet. Conical bores also have less slot, so the player will have to work harder to hit a note right on, but will also have more freedom to bend the note.
