Hi. I am a composer and need some help about which mutes to use for a trumpet.

I am after a very soft, mellow sound without an edge. Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Amy

Usually a straight mute would do the trick.

just have them stick their bells in the stand... that works best for what you`re looking for.

What about bucket mutes, u should not use straight, that gives a very sharp tone... nut cup mute could also do the trick...

A good cup mute has a very mellow sound. It requires a little more air though.
