how do pedal tones help your playing? can someone explain to me how they work?

it gets your lips more flexible they will help your tone and range. it helps to warm up to

Pedal tones (those below LOW F#) are used to build up your air pressure. Increased air pressure will allow you not only to play higher, but will increase your endurance and tone.

When you practice pedal tones, take a really deep breath and play them as loud as you can for as long as you can.
Make sure to breath with your diaphragm, not your shoulders. Your diaphragm is what you use to generate most of your air for playing, so breathing in with your shoulders won`t help much for air flow.
