o and ere, about every professional jazz piece calls for a high range.....and actualy a lot of rock i dont know if yall heard of chase but they have a whole section of screamers all im saying is that a high range will help you out if you plan on going pro if not then it really not an issue

actually i started playing with a jazz group in 9th grade and we played a song called jazz police (recorded by Gordin Goodwin`s big phat band) and at the end there is a 2 octaves above the staff and right before that there is an f sharp held for two measures and i played that starting in 9th grade... in a 8th grade i was playing a`s 2 octaves above the staff and double gs in jazz band and high e`s in marching band. i`m not saying that they do need that range because i know it`s not typical but i needed it when i was that age and younger.

The highest note you can play doesn`t mean anything. Sure, it`s helpful, but really, like Arban said, if you sound AMAZING in the trumpet`s chromatic range (low F# to high C), then you`ve got what you need. I mean, yeah, I`ve got a high A (have hit, but haven`t got, a double C), but it isn`t a focus... you need to work on tone and stuff, and the high notes just come with it... meh, just my opinions.

B flat above the staff, but it`s not bad considering I have braces.

Damn, kiddo. I could never hit that high back in 9th grade. I had braces (evil!) and could only hit a double C - though I was always first chair and constantly commended on my tone.

Now, I`m 21, I`ve been playing off and on since 6th grade and fully intend on going pro (I play in a ska band and teach trumpet lessons and have played in local orchestras - I`m getting there), and my highest note now is... around the E above triple C. Though I must say, even the most advanced jazz parts I`ve played do not require a range that high, and playing anything above a triple C at the moment hurts my head afterwards.
