I`ve been playing trumpet for 6 years now, and am looking to buy a new trumpet (Right now a play an old Holton cornet thats literally falling apart.) I`m a decent trumpet player looking to Purchase a horn that leaves me plenty of room to advance on. I have a limited budget so a xeno or a stradavarius is out of the question. I`ve been reading some very good things online about the Blessing ML-1,(I am strongly considering this one), the Getzen 590S Capri, and the king silver flair. If anyone has played one or more of these horns, or has other suggestions, please post your opinions here, I greatly appreciate it!

Okay... how much are you willing to spend?
I suggest looking on eBay. You could find a Stradivarius for a fairly inexpensive price there.
The Conn 58B is also good, as is the 52B.
eBay, I`m tellin ya.

I had a Blessing ML Artist model one time and it was ok. I personally do not like the sound of the Getzen Capri.
Yes, the question is how much can you afford to spend? A good pro model Bach or Yamaha used will run you at least 750 bucks depending on its used condition.

You`re not going to invest in a horn. You`re going to invest in you. How good do you want to sound? Read and learn what the other players out there are saying. It takes time to look at all the trumpet sites out there. Research. There`s a wealth of info from reading how the sellers describe their horns for sale on eBay. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. You want a lot of silent attaboys from your friends, stick with a name brand trumpet. Bach, Getzen, Benge. I had great luck purchasing my Strad 43 thru eBay with no hitches. You`ll be surprised at the sound a pro horn gives you versus second best. Good luck!

It has been my experience that there is really only 2 levels of horn. Student and Pro. New Student horns sell from about $300 to $800 and new Pro level horns from about $1,000 to infinity. You can usually find a used pro level horn for around $800 which is the upper price for a student horn. Bach Strads are the most common used pro-level horn and the good ones are great, but there are several others. You mention King Flair. I played one in college and on the road, it was great. Not too long ago I ran across a new UMI King Flair. It did not hold a candle to the old one. Don`t know what they are like now that they are part of Conn-Selmar. Take your time and pull together as much cash as possible. You are only going to pay for this horn once, you`ll have to live with for a long time.

I have a Strad that sounds wonderful-- full rich, but it is like driving a heavy car. Limited endurance- weak high register. Then there is the Yamaha Bobby Shew Z model--- very light plays like driving a sports car, tones slot in very well, two or three steps more on high end than the Bach but---- it sounds very bright and shallow. Both are good for certain types of playing- Bach= big band,, Yamaha= jazz, marches and you can play it all night especially with a medium mouthpiece like a shilke 13a4a
just my thoughts after playing 40 years
