Hi,
The valves on my trumpet are beginnging to get stuck as I play. When I lift my finger off, the valves sometimes take a few seconds to pop back up. I keep them oiled, but that doesn`t seem to prevent them getting stuck. Any ideas on how to fix this?
TIA,
Chris

what kind of horn do you have? Bach`s are notorious for having sticky valves. It could also be that you have a small dent in the valve(s) which you may not notice right off. Even the smallest ding can cause the valves to not work right.

i would take out your valves and completly wipe them clean and even let the sit in alchohal for a while and let it clean up that is usually the reason also oil and clean the spring everywhere on the valve clean it then oil it back again this will most likly work

You might need new springs too. I had the same problem and replaced the springs and it made a world of difference. good luck!

Don`t just clean the pistons. Also clean the valve cylinders, and make sure you swab them dry with a lint free cloth. With the close tolerances involved, even a tiny piece of lint will cause binding between the piston and cylinder. Also, you might want to take your springs out, keeping track of which came from which valve, and compare them. If the one that`s sticking is shorter than the those that are working OK, carefully stretch it to match the others. If all that doesn`t help, you probably need new springs.
