Could somebody explain the piccolo trumpet to me? What exactly does it do for you if its not "instant range" like most people think?

when you start playing really high on a trumpet you get into altissimo range. The notes don`t slot in altissimo or in othere words it doesn`t matter what fingering you use up there... you can play any note with any fingering. on the piccolo trumpet the notes will slot and be more in tune. it`s a little easier to play up that high and the piccolo trumpet usuallly has a much smaller bore and a "thinner" sound.
