Hello,

I`ve just joined the jazz ensemble at my high school and I am unsure of how to do improvisation. Do you just use ANY notes from the scale that pertains to the piece, or are their special scales you use (like blues scales). I`ve heard of them but don`t know what they are. If so, what are the notes used. I played a piec in middle school before but it had the notes you`re supposed to play already listed. Help and Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You improve using blues scale.....you can play any note in any order with any rythem you like in any certian scale.if your improving in a peice you would improve using what ever key the peice is in, They have sheets taht tell you the blues scales ask your director about them
