All,
A family member just moved in with us (5th grader) and has decided to join band; will be playing the trumpet. We wish to buy a used one and in talking with a few people were told to look at yamaha, conn and bach. Is there much difference between these?
We have located a used 1 1/2 year old (1 school year) Conn 1050b trumpet with bottles of oil and grease. Some minor scratches and wear where the trumpet is held at...but no dents or dings. Supposedly cleaned by music store before being stored for last 8 months. We could buy it for $175...seems reasonable, but wanted to get some opinions from those who know. Is this a good deal or should we keep looking? (We are currently renting for another 2 months, but hate to keep renting...)
Thanks!

I agree with your first comment. Have them play it and make sure it works. which should be a given. But as long as it plays and the valves are smooth and fast its a good deal. Really good deal actually for $175. But the valves could ruin the childs intrest in band. I remember, for my 5th grade concert my 1st valve snapped off in the middle of a song. Luckily I stuck with it.
Anyway i think that trumpet is a safe bet, and a good deal.
Good Luck!!
