I have to perform at a music festival and I really do not want to embarrass myself. Could someone suggest a piece that will capture the crowd.

You have to give us alot more than that. How old are you? What genre do you want to perform. (classical/jazz) What kind of festival is this? How long have you been playing the trumpet? With out some of that info it would be like shooting in the dark

I am 18 playing for a little over a year but can play a D above the staff and jazz would be preferable.

Jazz? well, i'm not sure what you can or can't do...but if you're doing solo stuff..or combo stuff, get some combo stuff..a rythm section and someone else to paly with. And my advice, is improvise!!!! because that's just awesome stuff. check out some wynton marsalis for some improvisation ideas.
