sounds to me like the guy you sit next to in band either blows too hard of has a poor embouchure. (i had this problem for way too long with my bach) you have to learn to blow it sweetly then its wonderful

"Monette horns are wonderfulness-sauce, but are expensivie." What a croc of !***!. If you are so die-hard about trumpeting, then why should the cost of a horn be a deterent if it sounds the best? I live in Portland, Or, where the Monette shop is, and I go to the shop about once a month to try out different horns. The 993 is my favorite, next to Wynton Marsalis' and Maynard Ferguson's custom horns which I've played on occasion. The bottom line is that once you try a monette, it is almost impossible to go back to your other horn because they are SO DAMN GOOD. I play on a cannonball Stone Series, which kicks ass, but Monette is still on a completely different level than all of your !***! horns....jupiter....hahahahahahahaha!!!!!

1) You have to realize that some horns are just flat out expensive. Most of the people here (including me) are in high school. And i doubt many parents will dish out 4K+ dollars for what in their opinion does the same thing a 1.5K dollar trumpet does. Most high school students have a very low income of their own (if any at all) and so have to rely on cheaper alternatives. While having the most expensive, best horn available is nice, it just isnt going to happen for a lot of people due to financial restraints.
2) Don't laugh at the cheaper alternatives. Some Jupiters are very well made. Admittedly, for the most part, they arent too great.

So just because you're some spoiled punk who can afford a big-time horn, you tihnk you're better than everyone else?
Just leave the forum, seriously, just delete your account, no one wants to hear from you.
I bet you don't stack up to many of these guys at all when it comes to playing.

i totally agree with what you are saying "TCLeadTpt09" and im really sorry if im one of the ones you are talking about i kind of want to clear up that i am not but even though i only personally own one trumpet which i saved for for 2 years when i was 11(all my other instruments are borrowed from teachers and bands) i am guilty of talking only about high quality brands dammit this comment ended up sounding stupid but aah well

oh and jupiters aren't all bad i played on a £250(approx. $380) cornet until a few years ago hell i was leading my band with it if you know an intrument well enough you can manage to get any standard of playing out of it

are people saying if you gave marsalis a jupiter for a few weeks/months/years he would be a bad player?

no, I'm not saying that at all, and to respond to the earlier comment, I don't own a Monette. If you had read my post closely you would learn that I own a Cannonball, worth approximately $1400. I do believe Monettes are grosely overpriced. I'll give you that, but if some clarification needs to be made on the forum about a price range. If you are simly talking about the best brands period, Monette is it. But if you set a price range with the student in mind, it isn't reasonable. Now in response to the last post. I'm not saying that equipment is everything, but it certainly matters. Take a player like Thara Memory (he studied with Bill Fielder). In our band, when he needs to show us something, he plays on our horns. The tone he gets out of a Bach is great, but when he plays on his Monette horn it makes all the difference. So, I'm not saying Wynton wouldn't be great, I'm simply saying having good equipment helps advance your playing.

hey TCLeadTpt09,i am not a spoiled punk!!!!to tell you the truth, there is no possible way my parents could afford a bach strad anytime in the near future.just cause someone plays an expensive horn doesn't mean they are stuck up!i know someone that plays trumpet and is in high school and that persons family has a good bit of money,so she has an expensive horn.she is really nice and is an excellent trumpet player.dont judge people based on the brand of horn they own!!!
(or the brand of horn they prefer!)

Wow. There are so many brands out there. I recently bought a silver Yamaha. It is amazing, but I have to say that the Strad owns all trumpets. Even the used ones. But I believe that they don't make the Bachs an nice as they used to. I love old good trumpets. I like to timker and learn the positives and negatives of old horns. I do know that the Getzen trumpets are a fun trumpet to play, unike the bach Strad. But that doesn't always mean much. It just depends on what you are playing. For instance; I would rather play a nice Getzen for a jazz band than a Strad. I would use the Strad for concert band. But everyone has their own opinions.
