I would like a reply from everyone that gives a hit to this website to find out your thoughts, insights, etc. on this "method" for playing the trumpet. This is bsed upon the teachings of Dr. Karl Sievers
and Bill Adam.
First of all, this way of playing is based upon a LOT of free, deep breathing and SOUND hearing/comprehension.
When you learn this method, some people may or may not find it quite different that there is absolutely NO buzzing involved for a person to have a great sound. "Buzzing" on the mouthpiece only creates tension in the mouth and creates unnecessary muscle and gives the player an annoying "choked" or strained sound.
Instead, the player should not buzz, but breathe freely through the mouthpiece and NO buzzing. ALL breathes MUST be the same, whether the note be high, low, pianissimo, or fortissimo, ALL notes must be HUGE, RELAXED, and DEEP.
When playing, the player MUST have a "picture" of the note ( whether it be imagining a proffesional player play it or a flame to give the affect of great, singular sound that is "lit up" ) s/he is about to play. S/He must HEAR the sound and hear it with great resonance ( a room that echoes would be great ) and tone. To achieve this, it is recommended that the player have a piano to tune with ( DO NOT use a tuner for this part, use a tuner AFTER you have heard the pitch ).
Continuous study of literature and listening to great recordings is needed to maintain musical balance. Playing through any method book, etude, work, etc. will NOT make you a better player. It is how you approach it. The mind MUST ALWAYS be focused on the sound of the note ( tone quality, tuning, etc. ). Technique, range, etc. will come to you as a player as a RESULT of he musical product, NOT vice versa.
Much more can be added to what I have said. Just ask, and I`ll try to give you an answer.
Remember when playing: hear a great sound in your head, take a deep breath to fuel the sound, and play for for pure enjoyment!!!
